Cirque du Soleil Comes to Cape Town

by on

Cape Town, get ready for the show of a lifetime! The legendary, original Cirque du Soleil will be in South Africa for the first time ever in March 2011 and bookings are already open at Computicket! In 1984, a group of 20 street performers joined together to form what has grown to become the international phenomenon known as Cirque du Soleil. The 1 200 strong troupe has performed to over 100 million spectators in 300 cities on 5 continents and is presenting 20 shows simultaneously in locations across the planet this year alone. 2011 marks our turn!

The artists will be wowing audiences at the GrandWest Grand Arena with their production of Saltimbanco from 23 to 27 March 2011. The production explores “the urban experience in all its myriad forms: the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and likenesses, families and groups, the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers. Between whirlwind and lull, prowess and poetry, Saltimbanco takes spectators on an allegorical and acrobatic journey into the heart of the city.”

Already having played host to big-name acts and live entertainment, including Andre Rieu, Deep Purple, Bafunny Bafunny, Wayne Brady, The Great Moscow Circus and Sir Tom Jones, the GrandWest Grand Arena with seating for over 5 000 people is ideally suited to accommodate a live show such as Saltimbanco that is grandiose in size and shape. Get ready for a night of spellbinding acrobatics and athleticism, juggling, dance, colour, sound, death-defying trapeze acts, Chinese Poles, bungee jumping, clowns and excitement as the talented artists draw you into a dreamlike wonder that you won’t forget for a very long time.

GrandWest is a short drive from our five-star hotel and sports a myriad of activities for the whole family to enjoy while you wait for the big show to start. From ice skating and gaming to dining and shopping, GrandWest has it all.

Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco is hosted exclusively at GrandWest and The Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg, so if you’re travelling down to Cape Town to enjoy the excitement of this incredible show, make sure you book your Table Bay Hotel accommodation early.
