The spectacular Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront is one of the Leading Hotels of the World. Set in a stunning location with beautiful seaside vistas, it was the perfect host for an evening of delightful culinary adventure – the Chef’s Table event!
A selected few online foodies and wine bloggers were recently invited to spend an evening at The Table Bay Hotel, where they were treated with superb accommodation as well an interactive Chef’s Table with Executive Chef, Dallas Orr.
Dallas Orr boasts many years of culinary experience and is no newcomer to The Table Bay as he was part of the opening team from 1996 to 2000. He then worked the Complex Executive Chef in Egypt’s Port Ghalib before being appointed Executive Chef of Sun International’s Royal Livingstone Hotel in Zambia. At The Table Bay, he’s used his experience and international flavour to ensure that guests dining in this restaurant experience the finest cuisine that Cape Town has to offer.
The exclusive Chef’s Table evening started with some sundowners in the elegant Union Bar, before moving on to The Table Bay Hotel kitchen where Dallas introduced his expert team as well as the various sections in the kitchen where different meals are prepared – ranging from cold starters to elaborate main course meals to delectable desserts. Guests were divided into groups where they spent time getting involved in preparing their own dishes, from the new and improved Table Bay menu. All this was done with hands on advice from the master chef himself as he shared insights and anecdotes.
When the dinner preparations were complete, guests left their aprons behind and moved to the Atlantic Grill’s Captain’s Table to sample the fruits of their labour. To top off the evening in true style, meals were paired with award winning Cape wines which they enjoyed alongside more anecdotes from Chef Dallas. “You don’t have to be the best cook in the world, you merely have to enjoy eating, drinking and laughing,” says Dallas. “A Chef’s Table is interactive, relaxing and a lot of fun and then you get to eat the delicious food you’ve just learnt how to make.”
