Get Blown Away At the Cape Town International Kite Festivalon October 21, 2010
In October, the skies of Cape Town are set to come alive with colour! This year, the Cape Town International Kite festival takes place on the 23 and 24 October in Zandvlei, Muizenberg. This dynamic display is an airborne exhibition of an astounding number of kites of all sorts of shapes and sizes! You and the family can watch these amazing features from the ground as they grace the skies in their happy-go-lucky manner. Some bob in the wind current, while others have the speed of jet planes as they cut through the air, flown by international teams and local kiters from Cape Town and Durban.
It’s no wonder that over 20 000 visitors flock to this event annually, as it’s the biggest kite festival in the whole of Africa! With an entrance cost of only R15 for adults and R5 for the kiddies, it’s a great opportunity for a fun family outing. Should you find all the wandering around leaves you feeling a bit peckish, there are food stalls and a craft market to explore.
To add to the vibey atmosphere, Heart 104.9 FM will be broadcasting live on both days. The kids will be in their element with a full programme of entertainment (including kite making workshops), giving you time to relax on the lawns and take in the beauty, sights and sounds. Be sure to look out for the giant inflatables (they’re hard to miss!) and take along a camera to capture your memories.
This is the sixteenth Cape Town International Kite Festival, themed “Uplifting Mind and Body”, proudly hosted by Cape Mental Health. It’s a great escape from the city and a fantastic cause to support as all profits go directly to Cape Mental Health to support their mental health services for people in disadvantaged communities. So do your bit, and let someone else’s dreams take flight!
