The Used Electrify The Grand Arena In Cape Townon August 16, 2011
Monday the 8th of August, the Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino & Entertainment World played host to an unforgettable evening of breathtaking live musical performances, including a rousing set by American “screamo” pioneers and rock sensations, The Used.
Stealing The Show
The concert, held just down the road from the magnificent Table Bay Hotel, featured an eclectic mix of local performers, including P.H.Fat, Lark and Capetonian legends, Fokofpolisiekar. The opening acts took full advantage of the stadium-quality concert set-up and packed crowd to create an atmosphere of palpable excitement and anticipation.
It was going to take something special from the Americans to live up to the brewing sense of expectation. Luckily for those in attendance, The Used exceeded even the most ardent of fans’ expectations, bringing the evening to a close with a passionate crescendo. Playing an hour-long set, the band never wavered in their energy and intensity, playing hit after hit with their signature blend of emotion and aggression. The GrandWest crowd sang along in ecstasy to songs old and new, with the evening reaching its zenith as The Used closed with their classic, “A Box Full Of Sharp Objects”.
The Used Will Be Back
The audience, however, weren’t the only ones on whom the evening had left an indelible mark; The Used lead singer, Bert McCracken, was clearly surprised and touched by the response of the Cape Town crowd. He admitted that the evening would long stay in his memory and that The Used would definitely be returning to South African shores soon.
