The Table Bay Hotel celebrated its fifteenth anniversary in May this year and since opening, the hotel has actively supported the community in which it operates, in small and big ways; whatever it takes to make a sustainable contribution.
“We are committed to being a responsible and caring community partner by supporting local projects,” says Sherwin Banda General Manager of The Table Bay Hotel. “This year our primary focus has been on educational projects. We have a few established relationships with schools, namely, Wesbank No.1 Primary in Delft and Athlone North Primary in Athlone.”
The Table Bay sponsored a school sign for Wesbank No.1 Primary to the value of R10 000 and the hotel will also be assisting the school in amassing books for their new library, which they are busy constructing. “We believe it is important to instil a culture of reading in schools as it helps pave the way to a successful and productive future,” says Banda.
The Table Bay Hotel regularly donates old linen and financial assistance to Athlone Primary. And, every month the hotel provides provisions for the feeding scheme which feeds over 500 children daily. Many of the children come to school hungry every day, knowing that when they get there, they will receive a nutritious meal. Children cannot learn effectively on an empty stomach and the Athlone School feeding project not only encourages children to attend school as they will be able to eat breakfast and lunch but it also enhances their ability to learn. The Hotel is also in the process of revamping the feeding scheme kitchen in partnership with other sponsors. The project will be completed by the end of the June school holidays.
The hotel also regularly sponsors faded linen to different charities such as Athlone North Primary, Wesbank Primary, Boys and Girls Town in Claremont and Greenpoint Clinic.
